Sweet and sour chicken is a common Chinese dish across various countries; it is such a popular favourite due to the tantalizing sweet, sour taste of the sauce that could whet any appetite. This dish is heavily influenced by migration and cultural assimilation — the original recipe was Shanghainese. It used black vinegar instead of the glossy, vibrant sweet and sour sauce. As Chinese immigrants settled in the UK, the recipe was altered and called for the use of sweet sour orange sauce instead. Sweet and sour chicken is a simple dish that you can make at home! First of all, prepare the batter to fry the chicken pieces. Mix water, wheat flour, cornflour, and MAGGI® CukupRasa™, then add chicken and mix until smooth. After setting it aside for 5 – 10 minutes, heat up the wok and fry the chicken till it's golden brown and crispy. Add oil, garlic, Holland onion, and green, red, and yellow bell peppers — adding vegetables not only enhances the dish's multicolour presentation but also provides a variety of taste and textures, which makes it more nutritious and balanced. Adding pineapples are vital to creating a tasty sweet sour sauce! Cook briefly and add water. For the sauce, add tomato ketchup and Thai chilli sauce mix, followed by sugar, vinegar, and MAGGI® CukupRasa™. Cook till it starts to boil, then add cornflour mix to thicken the sauce. Serve the sweet and sour chicken hot with some rice or noodles for an appetizing meal!
