Stew is a dish of poultry or seafood cooked together with vegetables and other ingredients in liquid in a closed vessel over low heat, for a hearty soup that’ll warm your stomach and heart. It is a cooking process that tenderizes tougher foods and mingles flavours, commonly eaten in cold countries with bread. Now considered a comfort food, stews were once a meal of necessity for communities who had little to eat.

Stew can be an easy one-pot meal or a hearty dish for rainy days, try out this simple beef stew recipe at home! Firstly, heat the pan with oil, and mix beef and flour in another bowl. Meats to be stewed are cut in cubes for easier cooking. Next, pan fry the beef until half cooked or golden brown and set aside. Using the same wok, stir fry some onion, garlic, oregano, bay leaf, paprika until fragrant, then add in the beef again. Then, pour in some water, tomato paste and MAGGI Tomato Sauce and stir thoroughly. After boiling, add in your preferred side ingredients like potato, capsicum, leek, carrot, celery and simmer for 15 minutes. The sauce that develops as the dish cooks may be thickened by pureeing the vegetables or by adding corn flour and egg yolks. Lastly, add in MAGGI chicken cube to enhance the flavour, stir well and simmer for another 10 minutes with low heat. Let the gravy become slightly thick for a filling and hearty beef stew recipe — a balanced nutritious meal of vegetable fibres and meat protein that fills your tummy!
