Chicken is a versatile dish that can be prepared with various methods and goes well with any sauce. Steamed chicken eaten with garlic chilli sauce in chicken rice, crispy chicken cutlets drenched with teriyaki sauce in Japanese rice bowls, fried chicken served with biryani rice and curry at mamak stalls — the varieties are endless. Looking for tasty sauce ideas to make chicken more flavorful? Learn how to make this sweet and sour honey BBQ chicken dish!
Start by creating a marinade for the chicken meat. In a bowl, mix MAGGI® Oyster Sauce, MAGGI® Tomato Ketchup, MAGGI® CukupRasa™, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, honey, brown sugar and five-spice powder. Next, add the chicken into the marinade and thoroughly coat the chicken. Transfer the chicken into a container with a lid or a zip-lock bag, allowing it to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours or preferably overnight.
When ready to cook, pour out the chicken and marinade into a saucepan and add some water. Cook on medium heat for about 45 minutes by flipping the chicken fillet every 10 minutes until it becomes tender. When the chicken is done, shift it onto a baking tray lined with aluminium foil. Continue to simmer the gravy on medium-low heat until it is reduced to a thick, glazed sauce. Next, bake the honey BBQ chicken for 10 to 15 minutes in a 200°C preheated oven to give it a charred look and fragrance! Remove the honey BBQ chicken from the oven and slice it, then drizzle with more gravy and serve with cucumber slices.
