The laksa is one of the most distinctive Malaysian dishes, a cuisine widely enjoyed throughout the country, with various states or regions having their own unique version of laksa influenced by local taste and culture. Malaysian laksa can be divided into two main variants — the curry laksa and asam laksa, with their ingredients and flavour being the distinctive factors. Asam laksa is a flavourful dish that combines the goodness of sweet, sour, tangy, gingery, slightly acidic flavours all in a bowl of stock — your taste buds are in for a treat! Asam laksa recipes usually call for thick or thin rice noodles, together with shredded mackerel, onions, cucumber, chillies, pineapple, lettuce, mint and bunga kantan — topped with prawn paste.

Here’s an asam laksa recipe with fried MAGGI® noodles so you can enjoy one of Malaysia’s most unique culinary delights from the comfort of your home! First, cook MAGGI® noodles for 1.5 minutes. Drain the noodles then toss under running water till cool to prevent it from getting mushy. You can also add a little oil so noodles don’t stick together. Next, stir fry red onions, bird’s eye chillies together with your preferred seafood or meat until fragrant. Toss in the blanched MAGGI® noodles, cabbage, daun kesum, and carrots for extra vegetable fibres that enhance the presentation of the dish. Spice up the dish by adding seasonings to it, stir fry it until fully absorbed for 1 to 2 minutes.

This asam laksa recipe only calls for simple ingredients and is relatively easy to make — good enough to satisfy your cravings for sour and spicy dishes anytime of the day!
