The anchovy sambal or better known as sambal ikan bilis is a familiar dish that is loved by every Malaysian. This versatile dish is usually paired with a myriad of other dishes especially the iconic Nasi Lemak. Today, let’s embrace making a change by adding a special twist to this traditional dish with MAGGI®. Are you familiar with the bamboo starfruit? Well, the bamboo starfruit is a local fruit that is sour which makes it the perfect ingredient to add in the anchovy sambal. The combination of the sour taste blends perfectly with the spiciness of the sambal that would surely whet your appetite. Ready to create the ultimate sambal dish? Let’s get to it! You can’t have anchovy sambal without anchovies, right? So begin by frying the anchovies to a crisp and set it aside. Make sure your anchovies are cooked properly to give that extra crunchiness. Now, onto the sambal. Using the same pan, fry the chopped onion and garlic until fragrant. Add in a packet of MAGGI® Sambal Tumis and fry until the oil rises. Next, add in the star ingredient, the bamboo starfruit. Do remember to cut your bamboo starfruit into half. Proceed to throw in a pinch of sugar as well as a dash of MAGGI® CukupRasa for that extra kick of flavour. Then, add in three tablespoons of water and mix until everything is well combined. Once the starfruit softens, your bamboo starfruit anchovy sambal is ready to be served. This tantalising dish can be enjoyed with almost everything! You can even enjoy the bamboo starfruit anchovy sambal with just a bowl of fluffy white rice.. Simple yet delicious. Looking for more delectable recipes?
